How far is Monte Argentario from the island of Giglio?

The distance between Monte Argentario and the island of Giglio is about 16 kilometers as the crow flies, a bit more if you follow the actual ferry route. It's short, but don't get your hopes up: there is no bridge or direct boat link from the promontory itself. You must start from Porto Santo Stefanoon the Argentario coast, and the crossing to Giglio Porto takes about an hour.

The ferry is the only practical option. In summer there are several departures a day, but out of season it drops to one or two runs. Plan on a one-way ticket for a pedestrian at around €20 to €30 depending on the season and the operator. If you take a car, the price climbs fast and it's best to book ahead in July and August. On a clear day you can see Giglio from the coast, but don't rely on that to judge the distance: the sea can be rough, especially in winter, and cancellations aren't rare.

To plan your day, check the timetable for that same day rather than a generic website. And if you want a preview of what awaits you once on the island, I invite you to read the dedicated page on theIsola del Giglio your little insider tip: it will give you a concrete idea of the villages, trails and beaches, without the frills.

Little insider tip: between Porto Santo Stefano and Giglio Porto, the ferry is a real little adventure, and the ideal moment is the departure at sunrise, when the island still emerges from the mist.
