How to get to Giglio Island from Porto Santo Stefano?

You take a ferry from Porto Santo Stefano to Giglio Porto, the island's main port. The companies Toremar and Maregiglio operate the route all year round; the crossing takes about an hour. Departures are more frequent in summer, but schedules change depending on the season and the day: check those for your date before leaving, especially in the off-season.

You can board on foot or with a car, a motorbike or a bicycle. As an indication, the Maregiglio 2026 fare for an adult on foot is 14.50 to €16 one way, to which the landing tax of 2 à 3 € is added; the amount varies depending on the period and the company. Book in advance for weekends and in summer. If you are boarding a vehicle, arrive at the port about 30 minutes before departure. Warning: in August, restrictions may limit access for non-residents' vehicles; you may sometimes need to prove you are staying on the island. If you are only coming for the day, check the current rules before booking a car.

Giglio is the kind of getaway where an overly tight schedule spoils some of the magic: give yourself time to wander without watching the clock.
