Why is Capalbio famous?

Capalbio is famous for its fortified medieval village and for the Tarot Gardena park of monumental sculptures created by the artist Niki de Saint Phalle. In the center, you can walk along part of the ramparts and see the Rocca Aldobrandesca; the visit is quite short, but the sloping alleys and the panoramas over the countryside give a good idea of the character of the place. For practical details, you can check our page on Capalbio.

The Tarot Garden is located in Garavicchio, about 5 km from the village. Its large colorful figures, covered with mosaics and mirrors, are the work of an artistic project in its own right, not a botanical garden. It is generally open from mid-April to mid-October, but the days and hours vary according to the season: check the calendar before leaving. Capalbio is also associated with a rather chic image, with second homes and expensive restaurants, especially in summer; the center nevertheless remains an inhabited village, not a lively setting all year round. The sea is a few kilometers away, but you need a car to easily connect the town to the beaches.
