La fête de Castell'Azzara does not take place in a single location: it is spread between the main village and several hamlets of the municipality, notably Montevitozzo, Selvena and Villa Sforzesca, on the southern slope of Mount Amiata, in the province of Grosseto. The celebrations take place around the 17 janvier, but the times and exact locations may vary from one edition to the next.
For the blessing of the animals and the masses, the main landmark is the church San Nicola di Bari, in the centre of Castell'Azzara. Some events are also held in the churches of the hamlets, such as that of the Marcelli in Montevitozzo. It is therefore best to check the programme for the year before setting off: if you are looking for entertainment concentrated in one square, this is not the format of this festival, which instead follows the local communities. You can find the details of this tradition on our page about the Feast of Saint Anthony Abbot in Castell'Azzara.
