Where is Niki de Saint Phalle's Tarot Garden?

The Tarot Garden is located at Garavicchio, near Pescia Fiorentina, in the municipality of Capalbio. It's at the far south of the Maremma, on a wooded hill a few kilometers from the border with Lazio. Allow about 15 minutes from the village of Capalbio, 35 minutes from Orbetello, 1 hour from Grosseto and 1 h 45 from Rome.

The car is almost essential: no regular bus goes up to the garden. Leave the Aurelia toward Pescia Fiorentina, then a small road leads to the car park. By train, the nearest station is Capalbio, on the Rome – Pisa line, from where you need to take a taxi. The garden opens from April 1 to October 15, every day de 14 h 30 à 19 h 30 (dernière entrée vers 18 h 15) ; le billet tourne autour de 15 € at full price, to be checked when you book.

The classic pitfall: arriving in the morning. The gates only open in the afternoon, and the number of entries per day is limited, so book online in summer. Keep the morning for the beach or the old village, as in our weekend in Capalbio, and read the Tarot Garden info sheet before going.

Late in the day, the low sun makes the sculptures' mirrors sparkle: aim for the last opening hour, when there are also fewer people.
