Cala del Gesso itinerary from Porto Santo Stefano

From Porto Santo Stefano, , take the SP 65, the Strada Panoramica, in the direction of Cala Moresca and Cala Piccola: the land access to Cala del Gesso is located at km 5,9, near the fork of Via dei Pionieri. Allow about 6 km and 10 to 15 minutes by car, depending on traffic. Follow the signs to the pedestrian entrance; do not try to drive down to the beach.

Parking is the tricky point: spaces along the road are limited in summer. There are also private parking lots in the area, but their availability and price may vary; plan on around 10 € per day if you find one, and check the conditions on site. From the large gate, allow 20 to 25 minutes on foot to go down, between path and trail, with some steep sections; the climb back up is more tiring, especially in full sun. Wear closed shoes and bring water: the cove has no facilities.

Without a car, a taxi from the village is possible, but check that it will agree to come pick you up at the agreed time. Another option in season: reach the cove by boat from the port, in about 18 to 20 minutes ; departures and fares depend on the operators, so check before you go.

In my opinion, Cala del Gesso deserves a real moment of its own rather than being squeezed between two stops: the approach is already part of the getaway, not just the journey.
