Is it worth visiting the Saturnia Hot Springs?

Yes, it's worth it if you're already in Maremma and feel like swimming outdoors: the Cascate del Mulino, near Saturnia, are natural pools fed by water at around 37 °C. Bathing in the pools is free. Plan for 1 to 2 hours on site; for me, it's a good stop, not necessarily a reason to cross Tuscany on its own.

The setting is beautiful, but the site is popular: on weekends and from June to September, it can get very crowded. On weekdays, early in the morning or in the cooler season, you'll generally enjoy the place better; the warm water also makes winter pleasant. There is a sulfur smell, and the rocks can be slippery: bring water shoes, your swimsuit and a towel. The natural pools don't offer the comfort of a spa facility. A developed area near the mill offers, depending on the package, parasol and seat or lounge chair for about 11 to 13 € ; this is not necessary to access the pools. If you want changing rooms and more services, the neighboring paid thermal park is another option.

Keep Saturnia as a lovely break in your itinerary, not as the absolute star of the trip: that's often how it's best appreciated.
