How can I take a drive around Monte Argentario?

To take a drive around the Monte Argentario, , start from Porto Santo Stefano et emprunte la Strada Panoramica toward the south, then reach Porto Ercole and come back via the inland road through Terrarossa. Allow about 35 à 45 km for this loop, and plan 18. 2 to 3 hours with a few stops; more if you visit both villages. The scenic road is winding and narrow in places: drive calmly and stop only in designated areas.

Good to know before setting off: the Panoramica is not a continuous coastal route, entirely easy and paved. Some sections may be damaged or unpaved; if you don't want to take that risk with a low car, simply do a round trip on the comfortable part, then take the main road to reach Porto Ercole. Check the condition and any restrictions on the day itself, as roadworks or bad weather can change access. In summer, leave in the morning rather: traffic and parking get complicated around the coves and villages. Also keep in mind the ZTL des centres de Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole : park outside and finish on foot. There is no ticket needed to use the public roads.

Don't try to collect every viewpoint: choose a few stops and enjoy the scenery without turning the outing into a parking hunt.
