How many GB of data should you get for a week in Italy?

For a week in Italy, get 5 GB if you mainly use maps, messaging, searches and a bit of social media. If you want to watch videos or make frequent video calls without Wi-Fi, aim for 10 Go ou plus. Conversely, 3 GB may be enough if you limit videos and download your maps in advance.

Maps and messaging generally use little data; it's mainly videos, video calls and automatic photo uploads that make the counter climb. One hour of video can amount from a few hundred MB to nearly1 Go, depending on quality and the app. For a stay in Tuscany or in Maremma, download offline maps and the content you want to watch when you have Wi-Fi: you'll avoid depending on the network on the road and save your data for the rest.

Before buying a SIM card or an eSIM, also check the data allowance usable abroad in your current plan: in Europe, the roaming data allowance may be different from the one available in France. If you're hesitating, 5 GB is a reasonable choice for a week with typical usage, without regular streaming.

Still, keep some margin: it would be a shame for your phone to swallow everything by syncing photos before your next break under the cypress trees!
