Can you swim in the Saturnia hot springs?

Yes, you can swim in the Cascate del Mulino, also called Cascate del Gorello, near Saturnia: access to the natural pools is free and possible all year round. The water is around 35 to 37 °C in the pools. It's an outdoor site, not a developed pool: there is no supervision, and the travertine bottom can be very slippery. Enter the water slowly, wear water shoes if you have any, and keep children within reach.

The heat can cause fatigue or dizziness, especially if you stay immersed for a long time. Take breaks, drink water, and get out if you feel unwell. If you are pregnant, if you have a heart or blood pressure condition, or if you take medication that makes you sensitive to heat, ask a healthcare professional for advice before bathing. For very young children, it's also best to ask the pediatrician's advice.

Bring a towel and a change of clothes: the pools are natural, with few facilities on site. In winter, bring something to cover up with when you get out, as the air can be cold even if the water stays warm. If you prefer developed and supervised pools, the 2. Terme di Saturnia thermal park is another option, for a fee.

You think you're coming for a quick dip... and then the pools slow down your pace. To enjoy the atmosphere without too many people, aim for the morning rather than the time when everyone has the same idea!
