Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself, in the heart of Tuscany, where the sea whispers to the vines. This wine, the Sassicaia from Tenuta San Guido, is an invitation to this unique land, an open door to a universe of elegance and character. It is a story of passion, that of an estate that dared to dream big.
In the prestigious region of Bolgheri, in the Tuscan Maremma, Tenuta San Guido wrote a page of history. It is here, in the 1960s, that the Incisa della Rocchetta family had the intuition to create a wine inspired by the great Bordeaux, using mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by a touch of Cabernet Franc. This boldness gave birth to the very first "Super Tuscan", a wine that revolutionized the Italian and international wine landscape. The terroir, particularly stony – hence the name "Sassicaia" – and the mild climate influenced by the proximity of the sea, give this wine a singular structure and complexity.
The 2022 vintage of Sassicaia reveals itself in an intense and vibrant ruby red robe. On the nose, I perceive a wide spectrum of aromas: notes of ripe red fruits mingle with balsamic and mineral touches, with a subtle presence of aromatic herbs. The wood aging, lasting a minimum of 24 months in French oak barriques after fermentation in steel tanks, brings a light trace of vanilla and chocolate. On the palate, this wine displays remarkable elegance and balance, with fine tannins and a complex structure that leads to a long and persistent finish. I find the documented notes of red fruits, spices and leather, a promise of a rich tasting.
This Sassicaia 2022 is the ideal companion for special moments. I recommend it with red meat dishes, a fine piece of game or aged cheeses. Imagine yourself savoring this wine during an intimate dinner, where each sip transports you to the heart of Tuscany. It is a unique tasting experience, an opportunity to discover the greatness of a wine celebrated and appreciated worldwide.
