Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself in the heart of Tuscany, where boldness meets tradition. Sassicaia 2023 is not just a wine, it's a story, the story of a vision that transformed a terroir and redefined Italian excellence. It's not a wine you drink, it's an experience you savor, a sensory journey that awaits you.
Let me take you to Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast, a place that Tenuta San Guido made famous. It was here that the Incisa della Rocchetta family had the audacity to introduce Bordeaux grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, into a territory that was not destined for quality viticulture. Sassicaia, born in 1968, was the pioneer of the "Super Tuscans", wines that, without following the strict rules of traditional appellations, conquered the world through their quality. Its success even gave rise to the Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC in 1994, the only Italian DOC dedicated to a single wine.
Sassicaia 2023 is primarily made from Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by a touch of Cabernet Franc. Its robe displays an intense ruby red, which will tend toward garnet over time. On the nose, you will discover an aromatic complexity: notes of ripe red fruits, blackcurrant and blackberry, interwoven with spices, tobacco and nuances of leather. A light balsamic touch perfects this bouquet. On the palate, this wine reveals itself to be rich and structured, with silky tannins and vibrant acidity that promise beautiful persistence and remarkable aging potential. It was aged in French oak barrels for at least 24 months, a process that gives it its depth and elegance.
To accompany Sassicaia 2023, I recommend thinking of bold and intense flavors. This wine pairs perfectly with red meat dishes, whether a roast or a grilled steak. It will also be an excellent partner for game, whose aromas it will know how to elevate. Finally, don't hesitate to pair it with aged cheeses, whose texture and taste will respond to its complexity. It's the ideal wine for a special occasion, a dinner where you want to make an impression and offer your guests a true tasting moment. Let yourself be carried away by this icon of Tuscan oenology.
