Hidden Tuscany Rating
Vermentino de Bolgheri DOC signed Folonari, aged in steel, with aromas of nectarine, mango and citrus, designed for seafood. Its youth and the absence of distinction or detailed viticultural practice limit the score.
Bolgheri DOC named, Vermentino Tuscan grape variety, Castagneto Carducci zone and Tenuta Campo al Mare: precise anchoring, but no detail on soils or microclimate.
No awards or guides mentioned; producer Folonari named, with no attested reputation in the provided texts.
At €14.19 instead of €17.11, the price remains consistent for a Bolgheri DOC white of this level, without distinction that would justify more.
Precise pairings (antipasti di mare, fish, shellfish), detailed aromatic profile and serving at 8-10 °C: a clear combination for a seaside white.
Folonari and the Tenuta Campo al Mare are located; fermentation and aging in steel at controlled temperature specified, but without duration or manual harvests.

Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself in the heart of Tuscany, a sea breeze caressing your face. That is exactly the emotion this Vermentino from Bolgheri, from Folonari's Campo al Mare estate, invites you to experience. A white wine that captures the very essence of the Tuscan coast, between vibrant freshness and saline character.
This Vermentino was born on the sun-drenched lands of Castagneto Carducci, within the Bolgheri DOC appellation, a region world-renowned for its exceptional wines. The Folonari estate, with its Tenuta Campo al Mare, grows this unique grape variety there, Vermentino, which flourishes fully under the maritime influence. The vinification, carried out entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserves the purity and liveliness of its aromas, followed by aging in the same tanks.
From the very first glance, its brilliant straw-yellow color captivates the eye. On the nose, you will be charmed by a symphony of ripe citrus, delicate white flowers and a subtle herbaceous touch evoking the Mediterranean scrubland, all lifted by a discreet minerality. On the palate, this wine reveals itself light and slender, carried by a lively acidity and a sapidity that stretches the tasting. The finish is clean and pleasant, irresistibly inviting a second glass.
This Vermentino is a true invitation to the table. I highly recommend it as an aperitif, to awaken the taste buds. It pairs wonderfully with seafood antipasti, grilled fish, shellfish and all the light dishes of Mediterranean cuisine. Also think of summer salads and fresh cheeses, which will find in it an ideal companion. To fully appreciate its freshness, serve it well chilled, between 10 and 12 °C, in glasses that are not too wide to concentrate its aromas.
This wine is a gem for your summer lunches and your convivial moments. Its youth is an asset, and I advise you to enjoy it in its first years to fully savor its immediate character and its dazzling freshness. It is a discovery I am delighted to share with you, a true expression of authentic and sunny Tuscany.
