Comment on noteThe wine
I invite you to discover a pure expression of the Bolgheri terroir, a wine that whispers Tuscan elegance. The Cont’Ugo 2023, a pure Merlot from Tenuta Guado al Tasso, is a gem I can't wait for you to explore, far off the beaten path.
Nestled in the heart of Alta Maremma, the Tenuta Guado al Tasso estate is one of the jewels of the Marchesi Antinori family. It is here, on these lands blessed by the sea and the sun, that wines of remarkable depth are born. This Bolgheri DOC is the fruit of meticulous work, in which Merlot finds a singular expression, far from its original terroirs. Vinification begins with fermentation in steel tanks, with maceration for about 20 days, allowing gentle extraction of aromas and tannins. Malolactic fermentation then takes place in barriques, a crucial step for refining the wine's texture.
The Cont’Ugo 2023 reveals an intense color, a promise of beautiful concentration. On the nose, you will be charmed by aromas of ripe red fruits, Mediterranean macchia and undergrowth, enhanced by subtle notes of licorice. On the palate, this wine offers beautiful structure, balanced by an enveloping softness. After about 12 months of aging in second-passage barriques, it unveils a complexity and harmony that invite contemplation. It is a wine of character, distinguished by its balance between power and elegance, perfectly reflecting the Bolgheri terroir.
This Bolgheri DOC is an ideal companion for convivial meals. I recommend it with grilled or roasted red meats, flavorful game, or aged cheeses. Its structure and aromatic richness will pair wonderfully with characterful dishes. Remember to decant it briefly before serving, at a temperature of 16 to 18 °C, so it can reveal all its splendor. Cont’Ugo is more than a wine, it is an experience, an invitation to share an exceptional moment, a true journey into the heart of authentic Tuscany.
