The white roads, or strade bianche, are those dirt paths you come across everywhere in Maremma. They are not isolated forest tracks, but often the historic access roads to farms and wine estates, sometimes even shortcuts between villages. They are maintained, but remain gravel or packed earth, hence their light color. For you, traveler, they mean open landscapes, free of traffic, and access to corners you would never see from the asphalt. It's the true path to the authenticity of Maremma.
