Porto Ercole, a former fishing village turned one of the most elegant addresses on Monte Argentario, concentrates the richest accommodation offering on the peninsula: charming hotels in the alleys of the fortified town, villas with views over the port, apartments a few steps from the coves. The village, dominated by its 16th-century Spanish fortress, retains an authentic charm despite its fashionable reputation.
Staying in Porto Ercole gives direct access to the most beautiful coves of the Argentario (Cala Grande, Cala del Gesso, accessible on foot or by boat) and to excursions to the island of Giglio. It is also one of the best bases for combining sea and gastronomy, with a concentration of good fish restaurants rare on the Tuscan coast.
