The Fortezza Orsini is located in the upper part of the village of Sorano, in the province of Grosseto, in southern Tuscany. Its address is Via Giuditta Finetti, 9. It overlooks the historic centre and is located about 9 km from Pitigliano by car: so don't confuse it with the Palazzo Orsini in Pitigliano, which is a different building.
Once in Sorano, you can reach the fortress on foot from the village; expect sloping alleys and steps, as the old town is not flat. The site also houses a museum dedicated to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and some parts of the fortifications, including the underground passages, can be discovered on a guided tour. Opening hours and tours may vary depending on the season: check the opening conditions before making the trip, especially in the off-season. Pitigliano and Sorano can easily be combined in a single day if you travel by car, but the local roads take longer than the short distance suggests.
