When to visit Massa Marittima?

To make the most of Massa Marittima without too much heat, aim for May-June or September : the days are generally mild, around 19 to 25 °C, and you can visit the medieval centre or walk in the hills without enduring the intense heat. Spring is greener, but a few showers remain possible; in September, the sea is still pleasant, even if the rains gradually return.

July and August are the hottest and driest months, with average highs close to 28 °C ; the days can feel heavier, and the exposed streets are best visited in the morning or late afternoon. The town sits at about 380 m above sea level : so evenings can be cooler than at the seaside.

October to March, expect more variable weather and more rain, especially in autumn. Winter works if you mainly want to visit at a relaxed pace, but some days are cool and the atmosphere is less lively. My practical choice: late May, June or September, with a light jacket for the evening and a backup plan in case of a shower.

In Massa Marittima, keep some time to wander without an itinerary: the detours through the medieval centre often make the best memories.
