Which museums should you visit in Manciano?

À Manciano, start with the Museo di Preistoria e Protostoria della Valle del Fiora, or at the 5, via Corsini. This is the museum to choose for understanding the history of the valley, from the first human settlements to the Bronze Age, with objects from local excavations and multimedia displays. The tour is mainly archaeological: if you are looking for an art museum or a large collection of paintings, this is not the right choice. In autumn and winter, the advertised opening hours are generally from Friday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., but they may change; call 0564 620532 before you go. I would also check the admission fee, which is not always clearly indicated.

In the same municipality, the Archaeological Museum of Saturnia and the trail of the Museo diffuso complete the visit, but these are not necessarily places open every day like a classic museum: find out about access before making the trip. The collection of objects from peasant life “Il sale della terra”, kept at the Filippo Mazzolai cooperative, can also be visited during activities or on request; do not count on regular opening without confirmation. In practice, for a spontaneous visit, the museum in the centre of Manciano therefore remains the simplest choice.

This kind of visit gives the walk a little investigative feel: afterwards, you look at the old paths as if they were still hiding clues.
