Where is the Etruscan necropolis of Sovana located?

The Etruscan necropolis of Sovana is located in Tuscany, in the province of Grosseto, about 1 km from the village, on the territory of the municipality of Sorano. From the town, follow the road towards San Martino sul Fiora : access and parking can take about 2 km de trajet, depending on the starting point. It is part of the Città del Tufo Archaeological Park, which groups together several sites in the area.

This is not an isolated tomb at the side of the road, but an archaeological area spread across the tuff hills around Sovana. On site, trails lead to different sectors and funerary monuments, including the tomb Ildebranda and the Tomb of the Siren, as well as vie cave, these passages carved into the rock. Bring suitable footwear: the tours are done on foot and some paths are uneven. The exact distance varies depending on the entrance and the chosen route; check access conditions before setting off.

Don't turn the visit into a hunt for famous tombs: the passages carved into the tuff give the place all its character — a little tip from a curious wild boar!
