Where can you swim for free in Maremma?

Yes: you can swim for free at Principina a Mare, on the long free beaches of Levante in Castiglione della Pescaia and at Marina di Alberese. At Principina, the parking is listed as free; at Levante, you'll find large stretches without any beach establishments, also accessible via the cycle path from Castiglione.

Marina di Alberese is a free beach, but the car may cost you something: in season, parking is paid and spaces are limited. To avoid this fee, you can come by bike via the cycle path, which is free; from the center of Grosseto, allow about 12 km. In summer, a shuttle also serves the area. The beach stretches for several kilometers, but bring water and sun protection: the services are seasonal.

À Cala Violina, swimming is not entirely free in summer: from June 1st to September 30th, reservation required, capacity of 700 people per day and contribution of 1 € per person. From Val Martina, you need to walk about 1.5 km on a trail; wear closed shoes. If you want to spend zero, opt for Principina or Levante, and check the parking fee before leaving.

The best companion for a free beach in Maremma is a well-stocked picnic: the setting easily invites you to extend the day.
