How to get from Rome to Capalbio?

The simplest way is to take a train from Roma Termini to Capalbio Scalo, then a bus or a taxi up to the hilltop village of Capalbio. The train journey takes about 1 h 40 to 2 h for direct trains; depending on the schedule and the ticket, allow about 10 to 25 €. Note: the station is not in the historic centre, but about 10 km. Buses connect the station to the village, but the schedules are limited and may vary depending on the day or the season. Check the connection before leaving; otherwise, plan for a taxi, to be booked in advance if possible.

By car, allow about 130 km and 1 h 30 to 2 h, depending on traffic. From Rome, you generally take the A12 then the SS1 Aurelia towards Grosseto, before taking the road to Capalbio. It is the most practical option if you also want to discover the beaches or the surrounding area, as getting around locally is complicated without a car. If you are travelling by train, do not confuse Capalbio Scalo, the station, with the medieval village on the hill. To prepare your stop once there, here are also a few places to eat in Capalbio.

If you are hesitating between train and car, think about the rest of the trip: Capalbio is better suited to a day that spills over into the surrounding area than to a timed there-and-back trip.
