What is Manciano famous for?

Manciano is best known for its hilltop position and its vast panorama over the Maremma, which has earned it the nickname of 'sentinel of the Maremma'. From the tower of the Casseroa former medieval fortress now linked to the town hall, you can look towards Mount Amiata, the Argentario coast and the islands of the Tuscan archipelago. On very clear days, the view can reach further, but it is not guaranteed: wind and visibility change quickly.

The village itself is a small historic centre to explore on foot, with its narrow streets, its ramparts, the Clock Tower and the church of San Leonardo. Manciano is also associated with the hot springs of Saturniabut a useful caveat: the hot springs and the waterfalls of the Mulino are not in the village. They are located in Saturnia, a hamlet of the municipality, about 14 km from Manciano. So you can sleep in Manciano and reach the pools by car, or stop in the village for its panorama and its quieter atmosphere. You will find more details in this guide about Manciano.

If you are hesitating between doing everything in one go and taking your time, keep Manciano as a quiet stop after the big baths: the contrast with the bustle of the waterfalls does you good.
