How do you get to the Via Cava di San Giuseppe?

To reach the Via Cava of San Giuseppe, , start from Pitigliano on foot or by car to the area of the bridge over the Lente stream, on the road heading towards Sovana. . There is a small parking area near the bridge; it can fill up quickly, so avoid counting on a guaranteed spot. From the historic center, allow about 20 minutes on foot to the entrances of the vie cave, following the signs towards Porta di Sovana and the via cava of Poggio Cani. At the end of this trail, cross the road towards Sovana, pass the old bridge over the Lente, then follow the signs for the Via Cava di San Giuseppe.

If you come by car, follow the road from Pitigliano to Sovana and park in the area near the bridge; access to the via cava is then on foot. The San Giuseppe section measures about 850 meters and takes around 18 minutes one way, not counting breaks. To make it a loop from the center of Pitigliano, plan on roughly 10 kilometers and 3 hours of walking. . The trail is uneven and can be slippery after rain: wear shoes with a good sole.
