How is the sea at Orbetello?

À Orbetello, , the town center overlooks a lagoon, not directly on the sea: to swim, you need to reach the beaches of Feniglia or Giannella, about 4 to 6 km from the center depending on the access chosen. These are long stretches of fine sand, with a generally gradual and shallow entry into the water. It's convenient with children, but don't expect everywhere the turquoise water and rocky coves of the Argentario.

The sea can be clear, but its appearance varies with the wind and the day's conditions. Feniglia stretches for about 6 km, behind a nature reserve where you can walk or cycle; it is very busy in summer, especially near the access points. Giannella also offers long stretches of beach, free or equipped, with a pine forest behind the sand. In short, you will mostly find shallow water and large, easily accessible beaches, rather than a wild coastline or deep waters. At Orbetello itself, la lagune est belle à observer, mais ce n’est pas la plage où aller nager.

I would keep a moment at the end of the day for the lagoon: its contemplative atmosphere offers a lovely counterpoint to the hours spent on the sand.
