How to get to Monte Argentario?

To get to the Monte Argentario, the simplest way is to reach Porto Santo Stefano or Porto Ercole by car, via the coastal road SS1 Aurelia, then follow the signs from the exit ofOrbetello ou d’Albinia. From Orbetello, allow about 15 km to Porto Santo Stefano. A car is also handy for getting between the two towns and accessing the coves: the roads are winding and public transport serves the isolated beaches less well. In summer, allow extra time for traffic slowdowns and parking.

Without a car, take the train toOrbetello-Monte Argentariostation, on the coastal line between Rome and Pisa, then continue by bus to Porto Santo Stefano. The station is located in Orbetello Scalo, not on the promontory; the bus trip usually takes around 30 minutes, depending on traffic and the stop. Schedules vary by day and season, and departures may be infrequent: check the connection before buying your train ticket. For Porto Ercole or the beaches, plan to take another bus, a taxi, or a rental car.

The trap is wanting to check off every cove in one day: on the Argentario, it's better to pick one spot and give it time to surprise you.
