How do you get to the San Rocco viewpoint?

If you're talking about the San Rocco viewpoint, in Sorano, the simplest way is to go by car: from the village, take the SP22 towards Sovana. After about 2 km, you'll find on the right a small marked parking area. From there, follow the footpath to the San Rocco chapel, then continue on the trail leading to the viewpoint, on the edge of the plateau. Parking is limited; avoid leaving your car on the roadway.

You can also reach the site on foot from the centre of Sorano via the Via Cava di San Rocco, but be careful: as of 5 October 2026, this route is temporarily closed for safety works. The municipality states that any openings on certain days will depend on safety conditions. So do not enter the via cava without checking the signs on site. The closure applies to this route; for road access to the viewpoint, follow local directions and respect any construction signage. Once on the plateau, stay on the marked trails: the cliff edges are steep.

Slow down a little once you arrive: a panorama like this is best savoured when you keep your eyes on the view… and your feet on the trail.
