The Maremma Regional Natural Park done 8 902 hectares for its protected area, i.e. about 8 900 hectares. The figure of 18 000 hectares sometimes seen refers to a wider perimeter: it also includes the contiguous area of the park, which does not have the same protection status.
This protected area stretches over about 25 kilometres of coastline, between Principina a Mare and Talamone, in the province of Grosseto. It notably includes the Uccellina mountains, pine forests, wetlands and beaches. If you compare figures found on different pages, therefore check whether they refer to the protected park alone or to the whole territory, contiguous area included: that's what explains the gap. To answer your question simply, remember about 8 900 protected hectares.
