How long does it take to visit Sovana?

To visit the village of Sovana, allow about 1 to 2 hours : the center is small and can be explored on foot, with a break on the Piazza del Pretorio, then the cathedral and the narrow streets. If you take the time to visit the inside of the monuments or stop for a drink, plan rather 2 hours. For the village alone, a whole day would generally be too long.

If you also want to discover the Etruscan necropolis of Sovana and the vie cave of the surroundings, book rather half a day, i.e. about 3 to 4 hours in total. The time depends on the number of tombs and trails you choose; some routes require walking on uneven paths, so wear suitable shoes. In summer, go early or in the late afternoon to avoid the hottest hours. In practice, Sovana combines easily with Pitigliano or Sorano, but visiting the three places in the same day involves making choices, especially if you want to walk in the necropolis rather than just pass through the villages.

In Sovana, the detour that really changes the walk is the one that takes you out of the village. I would take the time to walk rather than chase one more stop.
