Best free viewpoint spot over the Orbetello lagoon

The best free spot is the Diga d'Orbetello : this pedestrian causeway offers a view over both parts of the lagoon and over the Mulino Spagnoloresting in the water. You can reach it on foot from the historic center, without paying any entrance fee; no need to do the full loop to enjoy the panorama.

For a longer walk, the trail around the lagoon stretches for about 20 kmon flat terrain, but some sections are far from the center. In autumn and winter, you have a better chance of spotting flamingos along the banks; bring binoculars if you have any. One small drawback: the embankment mainly offers a beautiful overall view, not access to the WWF reserve's observation trails. For the latter, access is subject to specific hours or organized visits, with mandatory reservations at certain times.

The Spanish Mill gives the lagoon a little fairy-tale scenery vibe — put your phone away for two minutes, Tosco bets your eyes will take better photos!
