Where is the Laguna di Ponente located?

The Laguna di Ponente is located at Orbetello, in the province of Grosseto, on the southern coast of Tuscany. It is the western part of the Orbetello lagoon, facing the Argentario promontory. The town of Orbetello and its causeway separate this basin from the Laguna di Levante : if you look at a map, Ponente is on the west side of the town.

To discover it, look for theOasi WWF Laguna di Orbetello or the area of the bosco di Patanella, in the protected zone. A cycle path links the Orbetello station area to the Feniglia along the lagoon; the distance depends on where you start. Be careful, this is not a swimming beach: the lagoon is a protected wetland, interesting mainly for the landscapes and birdwatching. For swimming, aim instead for the beaches of the Argentario or the beaches of the tombolos of Giannella and Feniglia. Check the access conditions to the oasis before setting off, as the trails and areas open to the public do not cover the entire shore.

If you have a choice, save it for a quiet break: with binoculars in hand, you will better enjoy the reflections and the birds than in the bustle of the beaches.
