Where is Cala del Gesso and how do you get there?

Cala del Gesso is located on the west coast of Monte Argentario, a few kilometers from Porto Santo Stefano, in Maremma. By car, take the Strada Panoramica from the village: the pedestrian access is located near the km 5.9 of the SP 65, near the junction of Via dei Pionieri. You cannot drive down to the beach; park only in an authorized spot, as spaces near the starting point are scarce, especially in summer.

From the access gate, allow about 20 to 25 minutes on foot each way, via a road and then a steep, uneven path. The descent is fairly easy, but the uphill return can be grueling in the heat: wear good shoes, bring water, and avoid flip-flops for the trip. The cove is made of pebbles and without services, so also plan for something to drink and eat. You can also approach it by sea from Porto Santo Stefano, but check the boat trip options depending on the season; do not assume there is a regular shuttle.

Cala del Gesso has that little "reward at the end of the trail" quality that sets it apart from the easily accessible beaches of the Argentario: save some energy to enjoy the cove once you arrive!
