What is there to see on the island of Giglio?

Sur l’Giglio Island, you can alternate between beaches, swims in coves and hikes on trails that cross the scrubland and run along rocky coasts. For a large sandy beach, aim for Campese, to the west; near the port, Cannelle is easier to access. Arenella sits in a small cove and can get crowded quickly in summer. From Cannelle, a trail leads to Caldane : the route is doable on foot, but bring water, as there is no bar on site.

For walking, you can follow part of the route between Giglio Porto, Giglio Castello and Campese: allow about 9 km and 4 hours for the whole way to the viewpoint of Faraglione, with some good climbs. The fortified village of Giglio Castello is also worth a stop, especially for its narrow streets and ramparts. In the south, the trail of the Capel Rosso leads to an isolated lighthouse and open views over the sea; check the condition of the route and plan for suitable shoes and water, especially in midsummer. To reach the island, the ferry from Porto Santo Stefano met environ 1 hour. If you are coming for a day trip, choose one beach and one walk rather than trying to do the whole tour: getting around the island takes time.

You think you're coming for the panoramas, then Giglio Castello makes you lose track of time in its narrow streets — the kind of detour that turns a stopover into a real vacation moment.
