The Tenuta di Alberese, it is a large public farm estate of about 4 200 hectares, near the village ofAlberese, au sud de Grosseto, in the territory of the Maremma park. It is therefore not only a historic estate to visit: land is farmed there and notably Maremmana cattle are raised, with butteri who still work on horseback.
Its heritage mainly tells the agricultural and seigneurial history of the place: the Granducal Villa-Farm, built in the 15th century, and the remains of theSan Rabano abbey are among its notable sites. For the Etruscan context, it is better to look at the region as a whole: in Alberese itself, Etruscan traces are not clearly attested. You can consult our guide to Etruscan heritage in Maremma.
Don't expect to be able to wander freely throughout the property: access depends on the places and the activities offered. The visit to the butteri's saddlery is done by reservation, dure environ 30 minutes and the Tenuta's listing announces 60 € for the relevant groups; confirm the conditions before going. The tenuta is about 15 km from Grosseto.
