Which is the most beautiful Via Cava?

For me, the most beautiful is the Via Cava of San Sebastiano, near Sovana it is narrow, winding and carved between tuff walls rising more than 20 metersThe effect is particularly striking when you walk through the shaded passage, with ferns and moss on the rock. Nearby, you can also see the Tomba della Sirenaan Etruscan tomb adorned with a relief depicting a sea creature.

The via cava itself takes about 500 metersbut plan for instead 30 to 45 minutes for the passage and its surroundings, more if you take the time to visit the tombs. The ground can be uneven and slippery after rain: wear shoes with good grip. In spring and autumn, the walk is generally more pleasant; in summer, it is best to avoid the hot hours. If you are looking for an easier option, the Via Cava of San Giuseppenear Pitigliano, is about 850 meters and works well for a short stroll, but San Sebastiano offers a more enclosed and spectacular setting.

There are walks you tick off, and others that awaken the desire to slow down and look everywhere: this one really has a little taste of a secret passage.
