You'll find the easiest fields to visit around Santa Luce, in the hills of the province of Pisa: look towards Pieve Santa Luce, d’Orciano Pisano and Castellina Marittima. Allow about 40 km and 40 to 50 minutes of driving from Pisa. Flowering usually falls between mid-June and mid-July, but it varies depending on the weather and the plots. Some farms open to the public; access is not necessarily free everywhere, so check the opening hours and book if a guided tour interests you. Rain can also lead to the closure of the fields.
If you are in the south of the region, you can also visit Lavanda di Maremma, at Gavorrano, in the province of Grosseto. The farm offers tours, particularly about cultivation and distillation; contact them before going to arrange a time slot. From Grosseto, allow about 35 à 40 km, i.e. around 40 minutes by car. In both areas, don't expect to see vast fields everywhere along the roadside: these are mostly farmlands, and the state of flowering can change quickly. For the most intense colors, aim for late June or early July, without considering these dates as guaranteed.
