Where to stay in an agriturismo in Tuscany?

For a first stay, look for your agriturismo around Siena or in the Val d'Orcia : you'll be well placed to visit the villages and landscapes of southern Tuscany. Choose the Chianti if you mainly want vineyards and tastings; the Maremma if you want to combine countryside and beaches. Avoid trying to cover everything from a single address: Siena is already 75 km from Florence, and the secondary roads lengthen the journeys. A car is almost essential for staying in the countryside.

Around Pienza, San Quirico d’Orcia or Montalcino, you can range between small towns, thermal baths and wine estates; in the Maremma, look at the surroundings of Grosseto if the coast is part of your plans. For a double room, allow roughly 70 to 150 € per night : rates change according to the season, meals included, the pool and the type of accommodation, and can rise in July-August. Also check whether the agriturismo serves dinner and whether you need to book: some are isolated, and the nearest restaurant is not necessarily just around the corner.

When choosing, favour the charm of the setting over a long list of amenities: in Tuscany, the best plan is sometimes to come back early and enjoy the landscape without rushing elsewhere.
