How to avoid the crowds at Saturnia?

To avoid the crowds at Cascate del Mulino, come on a weekday, outside summer, and arrive early, ideally before 8 a.m.. Weekends and the June to September are the busiest times; in July and August, even in the morning, you won't necessarily be alone. Spring and autumn, on weekdays, generally offer better chances of enjoying the pools with fewer people, though with no guarantee of having them to yourself.

You can also try the end of the day, but don't count on a quiet nighttime visit: the natural site is accessible at all hours, but it is not lit. Access to the Cascate del Mulino is free and requires no reservation; however, parking can be tricky when there are many visitors, so avoid parking on the road. Bring shoes with good grip, as the travertine is slippery, and a towel: the facilities on site are not those of a spa establishment. If your stay falls on a summer weekend, the realistic compromise is to arrive very early or accept that there will be crowds — the pools are small and their popularity is anything but a hidden secret.

At Saturnia, it's better to savor the bath as a break than to chase the perfect photo: the most beautiful memories don't require an empty pool.
