How many hours does it take from Rome to Grosseto?

Allow about 2 h 15 by car between Rome and Grosseto, for nearly 180 km, excluding breaks and slowdowns. In summer or at rush hour, the trip can easily get longer: allow some leeway, especially if you need to arrive at a specific time. The time also depends on your starting point in Rome and on traffic when leaving the city.

By train, the direct journey between Roma Termini and Grosseto station generally takes between 1 h 40 and 2 h 30, depending on the train; some fast services take around1 h 30. Schedules and durations vary by day, so check the train matching your date. To reach the center of Grosseto, the station is in town. If you then want to explore the Maremma surroundings, a car gives you more freedom; to go only to Grosseto, the train avoids driving and searching for parking.

Grosseto deserves better than a checked box between two stops: give yourself a little breathing room on arrival, so the trip isn't just a stopwatch.
