edicule tomb

An edicule tomb, you're going to come across quite a few in Maremma. It's an Etruscan tomb, carved directly into the tuff, that volcanic rock typical of the region. Imagine a house facade, with a door, windows, sometimes even columns, all carved straight out of the stone. Behind this facade, one or more funerary chambers. What matters to you is that these tombs are often very well preserved and give you a concrete idea of Etruscan architecture. It's a direct testimony of their civilization, not just ruins.
