Comment on noteOur opinion
If you're looking for a table in Pitigliano that doesn't take you for a sucker, L'Altro Sapore is the place. Here, the house puts organic extra virgin olive oil at the center of its cooking, not just as an accompaniment, but as a pillar of its identity. That's the real difference, and that speaks to my Tuscan heart.
The cuisine is Italian, Mediterranean. Forget the frills, this is the real deal. The local reputation speaks of dishes where the quality of the products is paramount. The "cinta senese DOP" is often mentioned, those cured pork meats from Siena, or a "selezione di formaggi di bufala" that reminds you that good cheese is simple but requires know-how. And the "pecorino a latte crudo", if you don't know it, is the kind of gem that makes you understand what a true local product is.
The setting is said to be highly appreciated. Located in the Corano locality, outside the center, it smells of the countryside, of the scenic road. No terrace with a view of the Duomo, but rather the atmosphere of a place that lives to the rhythm of the land. It's a family affair, with the mother in the kitchen, a professional chef. That inspires confidence, it smells of a job well done and of passing things on.
You choose L'Altro Sapore because you want to eat real food, without fuss, with products that have meaning. The highlighting of their organic olive oil is not a marketing argument, it's the heart of their offering. It's a table that respects its roots and makes you feel it on the plate, without ever falling into the trap of tourist folklore. It's honest cooking, and that's what matters most.
