Manciano is the administrative capital of inland Maremma and the heart of the Morellino di Scansano DOCG wine region. Perched on a volcanic peak at 444 metres, it overlooks the plain that stretches to the sea on one side and the tufa hills on the other. It is from Manciano that the great wine estate tastings are best discovered (the largest cooperatives as well as the small independent winemakers are less than 15 km away), the excursions into Etruscan Tuscany (Pitigliano 18 km away, Sorano 14 km away, the via cava of San Rocco), and the walks through the vineyards.
The activities available in Manciano include: wine tastings in the cellars of the town centre and in the estates of the municipality, Tuscan cooking classes, guided tours of the centro storico (Torre Aldobrandesca, the medieval ramparts), walks in the surrounding vineyards, and access to the Cascate del Mulino of Saturnia 12 km away. It is an ideal base for exploring the whole of inland Maremma.
