When to book for low prices in Maremma?

To pay less in Maremma, , aim for May, the first half of June, the second half of September or October, and above all avoid July and August, especially the week of August 15. Accommodation prices generally drop outside school holidays and periods of high demand, but some seasonal establishments close after the summer.

If you want to swim, June and September are good compromises: September can still be pleasant, but the sea and beach services vary depending on the weather and the date. For a stay in the middle of summer, booking 4 to 6 months in advance mainly helps to find available accommodation; it doesn't guarantee a low rate. In May or October, you can often compare more leisurely and sometimes book later, except for weekends and public holidays.

To reduce the bill further, look at villages in the hinterland rather than seaside accommodation, and compare the total cost: some rentals require a full week in high season or charge for cleaning and extra fees. In the low season, also check the opening of restaurants, campsites and activities before booking.

Maremma outside the big rush is a bit like the backstage before the curtain rises: more room to improvise a stop in a small town. I would choose that freedom over a guaranteed sea view from the balcony!
