À Grosseto, the best tip is to visit the centre on foot, without planning a whole day: the walk along the walls takes about 3 km and costs nothing. Go through Dante Square to see the San Lorenzo cathedral, then stroll along Corso Carducci and around Piazza del Sale. The city is pleasant for a walk and a break on a terrace, but its centre is quite small; don't expect to find the liveliness or the monuments of Siena.
To understand the history of the Maremma, the MAAM (archaeology and art museum) is worth the detour, especially if you combine it with the site of Roselle, about 10 km to the north : the Etruscan and Roman remains are visited outdoors, so avoid the hottest hours in summer and bring water. If you plan to visit several cultural sites, the card MaremmAround Verde is advertised at 10 € for three museums, valid for four days; check the conditions before you go, as offers may change. By car, park outside the ZTL, around the walls, then continue on foot; paid parking and rules vary by area.
