À la Laguna di Ponente, you can mainly observe water birds: pink flamingosherons and egrets, black-winged stilts, ducks and coots. The mudflats also attract waders such as lapwings and sandpipers, while ospreys or marsh harriers may fly over the lagoon.
The composition changes according to the season: autumn and winter are generally the best periods to see migratory birds and large groups of flamingos, ducks or waders. In spring, you can more easily notice the species present for nesting, including the black-winged stilt. Numbers nevertheless vary from one year to the next and depending on the water level; a large concentration of flamingos is therefore not guaranteed on every visit.
Along the edges, there are also fish and, in the vegetation zones around the lagoon, mammals such as the fox, the badger or the porcupine, but they are far less easy to spot. For birds, take binoculars and allow some time: at a distance, certain species are easily confused, and observation depends on the accessible spots and the calm on site.
