What is the best view of the walls of Capalbio?

To best see the walls of Capalbio, take the camminamento di ronda, accessible from Piazza Magenta. You walk along the double enclosure with two levels: that's where you can observe up close the towers, the battlements and the differences between the medieval walls and the curtain wall added later. Access to the walkway is free, but you have to use stairs.

From the route, the view also opens onto the Maremma countryside, the lakes of Burano and San Floriano, and, in clear weather, towards the sea and the’Argentario. The panorama varies with the weather: don't necessarily expect to clearly make out the coast if the air is hazy. The walkway runs along the walls, but it is not a walk completely isolated from the village: some houses lean against the enclosure. Take your time at the different levels rather than looking for a single viewpoint; you will better see the construction and its openings.

The little game is to read the walls like an old page: the stones have almost as many stories to tell as the landscape. Keep an eye on the details, you curious little wild boar!
