When are the new excavations in Vetulonia?

The new excavation campaign at Vetulonia took place in August 2026 ; for the next one, no date has yet been announced. It concerned the Domus dei Dolia, in the Poggiarello Renzetti sector, where archaeologists continued exploring the house and searched for the layout of an ancient street. So, if you were thinking of attending the excavations right now, that is not possible: the announced dates correspond to the field campaign, not to public visits of the site. You can nevertheless visit the remains of the archaeological park. From October 25, 2026, the areas open to the public are announced from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with last entry at 4 pm ; admission is free. The Domus dei Dolia is located in the Scavi Città sector, on the Poggiarello Renzetti hill. Keep in mind that the park is closed on Mondays and may also close in case of a significant weather alert. To find out whether a new campaign is scheduled for 2027, the safest option will be to check with the park or the Vetulonia museum as your stay approaches: the excavation calendar has not yet been published.

At Vetulonia, an ancient house can almost be read like a puzzle: a detail of circulation can tell as much as the objects. If you go there, look at the spaces as a whole rather than room by room!
