Tuscia is the ancient name of Etruria, the territory of the Etruscans. When you travel in Maremma, you often hear this term because a large part of the province of Grosseto, especially in the south, was part of this civilization. It gives you a key to understanding the landscape and the remains you come across. It is the trace of a rich past, long before the Romans, which explains the Etruscan necropolises and museums you are going to visit. It is a strong historical marker, not just a geographical designation.
