The marciapiede is the sidewalk. In Maremma, as elsewhere in Italy, it is often nonexistent, narrow, or littered with obstacles (trash bins, scooters, café tables). In small villages, don't expect an easy stroll. In town, you will often have to walk on the roadway. This is a reality to take into account for your safety and comfort, especially if you are traveling with children or a stroller. Always anticipate the absence of sidewalks, especially outside historic centers.
