What is the best time to visit the Saturnia hot springs?

The best compromise is May-June or September-October : it is generally mild enough to enjoy the pools without the intense heat or the crowds of mid-summer. The water of the Cascate del Mulino stays around 37.5 °C all year round, so bathing in winter is also possible; the contrast with the cold air can simply be less pleasant when getting out.

In July and August, aim for early morning or late afternoon: at midday, it can be too hot to stay long in water that is already warm, and the free pools attract more people. Winter offers a calmer atmosphere and steam above the water, but bring warm clothes and accept sometimes damp weather. The waterfalls are free to access; after rain, the ground and rocks can be slippery. To choose your dates based on budget, you can also check out this budget for a weekend at the Maremma hot springs.

In Saturnia, I would bet on a few relaxing swims rather than a marathon in the pools: save some energy to stroll around the Maremma.
